Local Area Information
Location
The hamlet of Millook is five miles south of Bude and two and a half miles south of Widemouth Bay on the North Cornish coast.
Beaches:
Millook beach is just a short 5 minute walk away downhill. This is a shingle beach with swimming possible at high tide and plenty of rock pools to explore and paddle in at low tide. It is also well known as a surfing beach with one of the best left-hand breaks in the country but because of the rocks only suitable for the real professional!
The sandy beaches of Widemouth Bay are a short drive away where surfing equipment and wet suits can be hired and other water sports enjoyed. Lifeguards are on duty in the season and there are changing facilities and a beach café. The sandy beaches of Bude (including a saltwater outdoor swimming pool) Sandymouth, Northcott Mouth and Crackington Haven are also within easy reach.
Shopping:
Basic food provisions can be bought in either Widemouth Bay (2.5 miles) or at Wainhouse Corner, (2 miles). The nearest Post Office and petrol station are also at Wainhouse Corner. For anything else, Bude is well supplied with supermarkets and plenty of other shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
Things to do:
There is much to explore in the area such as the little fishing towns of Boscastle and Port Isaac and further afield the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan make for an excellent day trip.
The area is a paradise for walkers and the Mill Farm is less than five minutes away from the Cornish coastal path.
For keen cyclists the hilly terrain provides an excellent challenge and for the less demanding the Camel trail along the Camel river and estuary between Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow is a safe and pretty route ideal for families.
There are two golf courses within easy reach in Bude and Holsworthy. There are also tennis courts in Bude and a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool and wave machine. A soft play centre can also be found here, ideal for those with small children to occupy on a rainy day.
